Evan Queler, M.D., JCC Culinary Staff + Plant Powered Metro New York Mentors

Thinking about switching to a plant-based diet, but not sure where to start? The Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan and Plant Powered Metro New York have created a program to help you make the change easy and enjoyable. Scientific research suggests that many chronic diseases can be controlled, reduced, or even reversed by a whole-food, plant-based diet. Fitness payoffs include more energy, reduced inflammation, and better weight management.

The program includes dietary and meal-planning resources; kitchen skills and two cooking classes in the JCC's Patti Gelman Culinary Arts Studio; medical oversight by a board-certified physician; volunteer mentors; a social support network; and basic biometric testing, including weight, blood pressure, and fasting glucose. Participants will have the option to purchase a home labwork kit at a discounted rate (as an add-on to the program fee) to measure cholesterol levels before and after the program.

"I really enjoyed your program because it provided all the tools to make a transition to a healthier lifestyle. The great support, education, wonderful cooking classes  all made a big difference. It really works. I had lab work done after the program and saw an improvement in my lipid profile. Even though they had previously been within the normal range, there was a drop of 10 points. I also lost 5 lbs and am happy to say that I am still following a plant-based lifestyle." -- Yolanda

"I think the program was a great success. We felt supported throughout and appreciated our mentors, the webinars, the cooking classes, and all the recipes. I intend to continue with this lifestyle, so I am grateful for your thoughtful and comprehensive jumpstart." -- Anonymous
