SUMMER BREAK: An Art Exhibition Curated by Art in FLUX
Summer Break begs us not to forget, as we approach the summer season, what it means to be a student in America in 2018. Through installation, interactive works, 2-D artworks, and performance, this exhibition examines issues that have broken the essence of effective, nurturing education. Seven visual artists and a dozen spoken word artists present a variety of perspectives, some pulled from their days as young students and others as educators in the current environment.
Visual Artists: Duneska Suannette, jc lenochan, Jordan Baker Caldwell, Leslie Jimenez, Suprina, Tariku Shiferaw, Vladimir Cybil Charlier, Artistic Noise Youth and Passenger Pigeon Press, curated by Leanne Stella
Spoken Word Artists: Akeem Duncan, Deborah Oster Pannell, Edilma Ponce, John Gavin White, Marc Polite, Parlay, Queen Baker, Steph Walker, Taneeka Wilder, others to be announced, curated by Deborah Oster Pannell
Summer Break will run through Dec 31 at JCC Harlem. Mon-Fri, noon-6 pm, Free.
