Greening Initiative

JCC Manhattan is going greener! The JCC has revamped its green initiative. We conducted a green audit, calculated our carbon footprint, quantified the environmental impact of our operations, and identified areas for environmental improvement. Now that we’ve “cleaned house” at 334 Amsterdam, we are rolling out initiatives and programs both in the building and beyond to educate and help our community become greener too.

While we’ve always made an effort to be environmentally conscious, you may have noticed some of the ways we’ve recently gone greener at the JCC:

  • We are using 100% post-consumer recycled, plant-based renewable, commercially compostable goods at select programs. These are not only better for the environment but the cost is lower than the amount that we previously paid for plastic goods.
  • We have upgraded to 30% recycled printer paper.
  • We’ve updated the soaps in our locker rooms, so they are not only greener but healthier for those using them.
  • We’re in the process of replacing the light bulbs throughout the building with new LED bulbs, which not only use less electricity but last longer.
  • We’ve enrolled in Con Ed’s Demand Response program, cutting our energy use when necessary to prevent citywide brownouts.

Thank you for joining us in making our community a greener place!
