children, family + community
Kulam offers Sunday programming during the academic year for children with a variety of special needs. Kulam was developed to help parents on weekends when programming opportunities can be limited. Classes are offered in music, socialization, cooking, ceramics, theater, fitness, art, and Jewish culture with Matan. In addition to children’s classes, Kulam offers parent and sibling opportunities and family gatherings.
Swimming, art, and summer fun at Camp Kulam—a warm and welcoming camp experience for children with special needs, ages 5-12. The camp runs in two one-week sessions in August. We offer high adult to child ratios. Space is limited.
the 13th mitzvah
In partnership with Matan, the JCC is excited to offer a bar/bat mitzvah preparation program. It includes an ongoing class focused on the liturgy and rituals of the Jewish calendar year, as well as referrals to one-on-one tutoring outside of class as the bar/bat mitzvah date approaches. A Matan consultant will be available to help individual families navigate the bar/bat mitzvah process with local synagogues. There will also be opportunities for unaffiliated families to find a welcoming and friendly synagogue that meets their needs.
In order to assure that Kulam classes are comprised of a group of individuals who will optimally benefit from the program, a brief intake process has been devised. For more information or to begin the intake conversation, please contact Leslie Epstein Pearson, LCSW, at the Learning Resource Network at 212.632.4499.
