Trials, Tribulations, and Triumphs of the Tween Years
Who Is This Kid? A Guide for Parents of Tweens When kids enter their tween years, parents often say that they don’t recognize their child sometimes. Tweens don't look the same, sound the same, or act the same as they once did—so parenting requires some changes too. In this workshop, Dr. Kristin Perry and Dr. Iris Hellner, both psychologists, moms, and founders of InParentis, will help you understand the changes that are unfolding in your child’s mind, body, and social world. The doctors will present practical strategies for dealing with tween challenges, such as moodiness, limit-testing, rudeness, and demands for independence, and offer advice about how to best connect with your child during this transitional period. Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)
Becoming more ‘stress-hardy’ can lead to better life-long health. The MBSR program, developed at the University of Massachusetts Medical center by Jon Kabat-Zinn, integrates mindfulness meditation (moment-to-moment, non-judgmental awareness) with a profound level of inquiry into its relevance to daily life. MBSR can bring changes in physical and psychological symptoms, greater energy, improved self-esteem, and increased ability to cope with pain and stress. This course includes instruction in mindfulness meditation, gentle stretching and yoga, group dialogue and inquiry, along with daily practice support materials. With Elaine Retholtz, MBSR teacher and acupuncturist in private practice. For more information call 646.505.5726. Co-sponsored by NY Insight Meditation Center. (more)REGISTER
