Shoemaking: Beginner
Design and make a fabulous pair of shoes. Students will make a pump for their first project. Creating your very own design, drafting patterns, cutting leathers, stitching, constructing leather components and more will be covered. Imagine decorating with gems, buckles, nail heads, spikes, and sumptuous trims. Your dream shoe is just a class away! Enrollment is ongoing, contact Sigrid at sorr@jccmanhattan.org to sign up after the 1st class. Supplies will be discussed at the first class on where to purchase materials, leather, and more. This course is an intensive format meeting for 6 hours each session, for 6 sessions. Please check the session dates carefully prior to registering. Design and make a fabulous pair of shoes. Sewing Workshop: Mastering the Basics
Change the whole look of your living room or bedroom by swapping out the pillows that came with the set and making your own. This workshop will be a good introduction to sewing for beginners and teach more skilled sewers some great tips. Limited space for enrollment. Handbag Construction: Summer Lab
For students who were enrolled in the Handbag Construction class for 8 Wednesdays May-July. Grab-and-go clutches and sling-em-on cross-body purses are hot trends right now for their size, practical use, and colors. Purchase your favorite prints, colors, and textures in leather and fabric and make a purse uniquely your own from a pattern the instructor will design with you. Students will purchase their own supplies. Knowledge of machine sewing is helpful, but hand-sewing techniques will also be demonstrated. Explore the exciting world of fashion illustration by learning basic figure-drawing skills. Introducing drawing and painting techniques, we will stylize the fashion figure and create multiple pages of models to draw your own collection on. We’ll also focus on drawing the face, hairstyles, fabrics, makeup, and more.
