Annual Shashlik in the Sukkah
Celebrate the harvest festival of Sukkot in style with food, drink, and conversation, in the Roberts Family Rooftop Sukkah. Engage with other Russian speakers over holiday rituals and the shared connection of eating in a temporary shelter. Arlekino @ Generation R 4-6 Years
Now in its third-year of residency at the JCC in Manhattan, Arlekino Theater Troupe cultivates interest in the arts in Russian-speaking Jewish children ages 4-6, while instilling an appreciation for their Jewish heritage. This 2-hour program nurtures children's self expression, inquiry, and exploration, and promotes Russian language development. The program includes inludes dramatic play, dance, music, storytelling, and art workshops, inspiring young children through interactive interpretations of Jewish folktales, courtesy of the PJ Library. The program culminates in an original, multidisciplinary performance piece by the program's participants. Shulamit, an original musical drama based on the Song of Songs
WORLD PREMIERE! Shulamit, an original musical drama performed in an opera style based on the Song of Songs, was conceived by Dina Pruzhansky, a BluePrint Fellow and composer who was born in Russia. Pruzhansky’s original score will be complemented by sets, costumes, and a live orchestra composed of other BluePrint Fellow alumni. The piece will be performed in Hebrew with English supertitles. Generation R Documentary Film Night: BluePrint Fellow Premieres
Filmmakers Ilya Blokh and Pavel Sklar explore different niches in the Russian-American Jewish immigrant experience. Blokh focuses his lens on Jewish music from the country of his birth that is in danger of being lost forever while, Pavel documents the childhood memories of leaving the FSU and arriving in America, shedding light on the universal psychology of child immigrants.
