MBSR Graduate Refresher Evenings
Becoming more ‘stress-hardy’ can lead to better life-long health. The MBSR program, developed at the University of Massachusetts Medical center by Jon Kabat-Zinn, integrates mindfulness meditation (moment-to-moment, non-judgmental awareness) with a profound level of inquiry into its relevance to daily life. MBSR can bring changes in physical and psychological symptoms, greater energy, improved self-esteem, and increased ability to cope with pain and stress. This course includes instruction in mindfulness meditation, gentle stretching and yoga, group dialogue and inquiry, along with daily practice support materials. With Elaine Retholtz, MBSR teacher and acupuncturist in private practice. For more information call 646.505.5726. Co-sponsored by NY Insight Meditation Center. (more)REGISTER

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) with Elaine Retholtz
Are you dealing with chronic stress or managing a chronic illness? Based on the renowned program developed by Jon Kabat–Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, this course will provide you with instruction in mindfulness meditation, gentle yoga, and group dialogue, as well as give you daily practice support materials to help deal with stress, chronic illness, or pain. Please note: There is a mandatory orientation session either Wednesday, Jan 21 at 7pm or Thursday, Jan 22 at 9:30am. If you cannot make either orientation and want to sign up for the class, please let us know. The all-day retreat included in the course is scheduled for Sunday, March 15 and open to both evening and morning sections. For more information call Susie at 646.505.5726. What is MBSR? MBSR uses meditation, mindful movement and inquiry as a way of training people to relate differently to stresses in their lives. Originally developed for people with chronic pain, it has expanded to benefit people dealing with the serious illness or simply the day to day pressures and anxieties of modern life. Research over the past 35 years indicates that a majority of people who complete the course report a greater ability to cope more effectively with short and long term stresssful situations; an increased ability to relax; lasting decreases in physical and psychological pain; and, most importantly, a greater energy and enthusiasm for life. Elaine Retholtz is a certified Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Teacher, which is the recognition by the Center for Mindfulness (CFM) of in-depth understanding and skillful delivery of the MBSR curriculum. Elaine is on the Teacher's Council at NY Insight Meditation Center, where she is also a board member and a member of the diversity committee.
