Whether you're thinking about starting a family or expecting, or your child is a newborn, toddler, or older, the JCC is here for you.

new parents

From special breakfasts for new parents to bump bashes to support groups with experts in every field, the JCC has a program for every parent transitioning to their new stage of life.

Classes and groups include:

  • Caring for your Newborn Baby:  Find joy in the care routines you create for your new baby. Topics include: preparing the home for the baby's arrival, circumcision and umbilical cord care, bathing and dressing, breastfeeding, how to handle a colicky baby, and more! Led by Andrea Syms-Brown, IBCLC, CIMI, experienced newborn care specialist/educator. For your convenience, this workshop repeats five times. Choose the date that works best for you.

  • Breastfeeding Group:  Nurse your baby while schmoozing with other moms, asking questions, and getting answers. Led by Beverly Solow, board-certified lactation consultant who has been assisting nursing mothers for over 18 years. Pregnant women are also welcome. This program is for women only.

  • Tummy time:  This charming class makes tummy time fun for you and your baby. Through songs, nursery rhymes, and exercises designed to strengthen muscles and provide mental stimulation, your baby will reach important milestones in a playful and relaxed environment. A perfect first movement class for your new baby.

  • New Parents, New Baby:  If you're a new mom, join us for breakfast. Bring your babies, meet other new moms, and get all of your questions answered by Brooke Nalle, Sleep Consultant and founder of Sleepy on Hudson.Breakfast will be kosher and dairy.


parenting resources

If you're looking to educate yourself in CPR or first aid, the JCC offers regular workshops and classes to help you learn these crucial skills.

Classes, events, and groups include:

  • Pre-adoptive suport group:  You've begun the adoption process and anxiously await the arrival of your child. Join others who have similar questions and concerns as you pursue unfamiliar territories. Group meets monthly and is facilitated by Lorayne Losch, LCSW Ametz Adoption Program/JCCA.

  • How to Adopt:  This interactive session is a great place to start if you are thinking about adoption or cannot decide between domestic and international adoption options. Learn the difference in working with an agency or attorney, what to expect during the homestudy, costs, time-frames, ages and background information available on children and the availability of education and support before, during and after adoption.

  • Post-adoptive Support Group:  Laugh, learn and share the daily joys and challenges of being a parent through adoption while gaining information on local resources. Led by Lorayne Losch, LCSW.

  • Infant CPR, Rescue Breathing, and Heimlich:  Learn to perform CPR on all ages. We will cover prevention, recognition, and treatment for respiratory and cardiac emergencies (CPR), and choking emergencies for infants (12 months and under) and Children/Adults (1 year and up). This course is designed for parents/caregivers, personal trainers, teachers, counselors, and anyone requiring certification in CPR with AED.

  • Dads Meetup Brunch:  Enjoy light brunch fare, play and hang out with fellow dads and their little ones in a casual playgroup environment.

  • Bump Bash:  A special night out for all expectant parents! Join us for this fun evening of mock-tails and connecting with other parents-to-be and experts in sleep, breastfeeding and other relevant topics to get you prepped for your new addition.


prenatal and postnatal fitness

We believe that if moms are healthy and happy, babies will be too. That's why we offer prenatal and postnatal fitness classes with the top innovators in New York City. Learn how to relax and get strong as you prepare for birth; then discover how to get your body back in shape safely, so you have the energy to enjoy motherhood.

Classes include:

  • Mother + Baby Yoga.  This multi-level postpartum yoga class is specifically designed to strengthen your body after giving birth, and allow you to practice yoga with your baby. You will regain the strength of your abdominal and pelvic floor muscles, develop inner and outer strength, and meet other new moms and babies.

  • Yoga for Pregnancy and Childbirth.  Learn from an expert how to use yoga to relieve discomfort and strengthen your body for natural childbirth or Cesarean section. This flowing prenatal yoga class will also help you safely develop the strength in your core to maintain postural integrity during and after pregnancy.

  • Mother + Baby Pilates.  Work on those abs! Regain the integrity of your pelvic floor and strengthen your back while enhancing the natural mother + baby bond. Bring a baby blanket. Class limited to 8.

  • Prenatal Water Class.  Safely keep your abdominals in shape and relieve back pain with soothing water exercise. Maintain your cardiovascular fitness and greatly reduce the physical discomforts of pregnancy. Held in the main pool; swim cap required. Class limited to 12.

It takes a village to raise a child, and the JCC supports all the caregivers entrusted with our children's day to day well-being. So whether you need help choosing a caregiver, or want to show yours just how much you appreciate everything they do, the JCC can help.
