Programming for Makom: The Center for Mindfulness, is made possible through generous grants from the Nathan Cummings Foundation and the Joyce and Irving Goldman Family Foundation.
Daily Instructed Meditation
Are you feeling stress in daily life? Have you always had an interest in meditaition? Are you interested in learning more? Are you looking for a wonderful place to come in order to support your meditation practice? Come to our beautiful Makom space on the 7th floor of the JCC for our free, daily drop-in meditation program! There is a teacher in Makom every weekday morning from 7:30-8:30am and every weekday afternoon except Friday from 5:45-6:45pm (except Jewish and American holidays). Join our gifted meditation teachers for gentle instruction in mindfulness meditation, have time to ask questions about your practice and about meditation, and engage in quiet sitting time. This program is free for members and non-members. Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction
Are you dealing with stress, chronic illness or pain? This course includes instruction in mindfulness meditation practice, gentle stretching and yoga, group dialogue and inquiry, and provides daily practice support materials. Modeled after the renowned program developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts over 25 years ago, MBSR can bring you lasting changes in physical and psychological symptoms, greater energy, imporved self-esteem and increased ability to cope with pain and stress. Evening and morning classes available. Evening class taught by Elaine Retholtz, morning class will be taught by Jon Aaron. For more information, call 646.505.5726. Co-sponsored by New York Insight. Attendance is required at the orientation sessions, held Wednesday, Oct 7 at 7pm (for the evening class) or 10am on Thursday, October 8 (for the morning class). Then classes begin the week of October 12.The full day class, which is included in the course and is for both the morning and afternoon classes, will be held on Sunday, November 22, from 10am to 5pm. |
