The JCC and the New York University Parkinson and Movement Disorders Center proudly announce a partnership to establish the NYU/JCC Parkinson Wellness Program. This innovative partnership was founded on the principle of helping to improve our participants' quality of life through learning, fitness and creativity. All of our fitness and educational programs are designed specifically for individuals and families living with Parkinson.

Eligibility Requirements for Fitness Classes:
The NYU/JCC Parkinson Wellness Program strives to embrace the individual and their unique abilities. We do our best to provide our fitness class participants with an environment that is safe and challenging, yet physically appropriate. Therefore each fitness class has been designed to accommodate participants with similar physical ability. We have several fitness classes that are designed for people who are independently mobile and do not require an assistive device to walk. Our yoga class can accommodate those whose physical abilities classes have lessened.
To ensure a quality experience and to best match your physical abilities to the structure of the each class, all participants in Parkinson Wellness fitness classes are asked to complete an intake interview process prior to registration. A doctor's note is required for participation in all Parkinson Wellness fitness classes.

Who may register for the NYU/JCC Parkinson Wellness Program?

Parkinson Wellness fitness classes are designed specifically for people with Parkinson. The Parkinson Wellness Sunday Series is open to all people and families living with Parkinson, as well as all others who are interested. The NYU/JCC Parkinson Wellness program is open to all persons living with Parkinson and their families and friends regardless of place of residence, religious affiliation or where one receives health care.

How do I register for Parkinson Wellness fitness classes?

If you are interested in registering for a Parkinson Wellness fitness class or for more information about eligibility requirements, please call Amy C. Lemen at 646-505-5744. All participants in Parkinson Wellness fitness classes are asked to complete an intake interview process prior to registration. A doctor’s note is required for participation in all Parkinson Wellness fitness classes.


The fee for Parkinson Wellness fitness classes is $50. The Parkinson Wellness Sunday Series is free. Registration is required for both.


All NYU/JCC Parkinson Wellness Program classes and events take place at the JCC in Manhattan located at 334 Amsterdam Avenue @ 76th Street on the Upper West Side. The entrance to the JCC is on Amsterdam Avenue.


You will receive a confirmation letter from the JCC telling you the time and date of the class or event for which you’ve registered. Bring that letter with you on the day of the class or event for entrance into the building.

Parkinson Wellness fitness classes are offered in 10 week sessions. The class that you register for will meet once per week for 10 weeks.


These 10 week sessions are offered 3 times per year in the Winter (end of January through the beginning of April), Spring/Summer (mid-May through mid-July) and Fall (October through December).


Unfortunately, not at this time. Registration is required for all Parkinson Wellness fitness classes on a 10 week basis.


No. If you would like to use the Fitness Center, pool and locker rooms, a JCC Fitness Membership is required. A JCC Fitness Center Membership is not included with the registration fee for the Parkinson Wellness fitness classes.
